SEO News Roundup for September 24, 2010

October 1st, 2010 | | SEO News Roundup

Having videos on your website can attract links, traffic, and lead to high rankings in search engines. If you’ve always wanted to incorporate video content on your site but aren’t sure how to go about it, Arnie Kuenn’s article on Search Engine People is a must read. This first part of a two part series on video marketing discusses how anyone can create and edit a video, along with tips on how to the maximize benefits to your site.  So don’t worry if you aren’t a professional videographer, all you need is a camera and a little imagination!

It’s time to make your website content perform for you.  No, I don’t mean making your pages dance for a sale, but it comes closer than you would think.  According to Michael Gray of Grawolf’s SEO Blog, every now and then you should conduct a content audit of your website.  Basically this entails throwing out the garbage—the underperforming pages.  If you have a page that falls far behind in page views, get rid of it!  Check to make sure that old content has been archived or deleted, and always keep fresh new content on your page—this will help rankings and page views tremendously.

Everything in moderation is the lesson in Rand Fishkin’s post for SEOMoz this week.  It’s easy to create over-optimized sites by shoving as many keywords as possible into your content and titles. Take a step back from the keyword loading and look at your content from a human perspective rather than a robot’s.  Will your page content make sense to your visitors?  Remember those industry best practices and market your visitors’ searches in the most optimal ways.

Running out of link-building ideas?  Tired of trying the same old tactics? Never fear! Rand Fishkin of SEOmoz is back again. He compiled a video of four new link building techniques you might not have thought of.  From testimonials to submitting news stories, Fishkin shows us solid ways to get a quality link to your site without having to resort to directories, weak connections, or misleading tactics.  And the best news?  You (most likely) already have everything you need to make these unconventional tactics work for you.  Just apply sincerity, creativity, and user-friendly-ness to your resources at hand, and you should gain some great backlinks in no time.
