There’s no way around it, if you own a business you need to have a Facebook profile. The social network is changing Internet search and you will miss out on opportunities if you get left behind. Stone Reuning of Search Engine Guide has written a post about how you can get more out of a business Facebook profile [1]. Besides consistently creating new content, you can now customize your page using a subset of HTML called FBML. Reuning does a great job of laying out the new coding language and showing how you can use it to achieve success on Facebook.

In the world of SEO, two goals are always at the top of the list: getting better traffic and rankings. Usually the chance to improve these areas is a welcomed challenge, but if you’re like me, sometimes the creativity well is dry. Richard Baxter with SEOmoz wrote a great post with some tips on how to improve traffic and rankings [2]. Improving these areas will only make you look good [3]…and who wouldn’t want that?

The Internet is a difficult place to hide. Whatever you do to your SEO campaign, someone can see it – whether this be your targeted audience, or competitors eager to borrow your ideas. In this situation there is the temptation to despair, but as Taylor Pratt of Raven Internet Marketing Tools reminds us, a better option is to turn the situation around and dig into your competition. His post compiles a comprehensive list of Competitor Analysis Tools [4], with suggestions on how to use them for keyword targeting, backlink research, and competitor monitoring.  By using these tools, you can ensure that your SEO will stay in the forefront of viewer attention, rather than dropping out of sight.

Have you seen The Social Network yet? Despite how the movie might make you feel about Facebook’s beginnings, there’s no denying its popularity and importance in reaching your customers. Cynthia Boris from Marketing Pilgrim explains Facebook’s new groups feature [5].  This tool allows you to create a group with a list of “friends” that you want to update with new information without spamming everyone else.

According to Kieron Hughes at the SEOMoz blog, you can use Youtube as a great way to find out new keywords to put into your SEO strategy [6].  Basically, look in Youtube for your sites product/service.  Start watching the videos, but also look at the description that the user offers about the video.  Oftentimes (as shown through Kieron’s example, speech pathology), you can find keywords in the that you would have never considered.  Also, look at the comments by users underneath the video and you can get a better look into the more specific aspects of the product/service you are researching.  And, lets not forget that Youtube is fun, and you can “research” a few good clips [7].
