Our Greatest Hits for November 2010

December 2nd, 2010 | | Greatest Hits

The page views have spoken! Below we have gathered SEO Boy’s four most visited, and hopefully most valuable, articles from November. Whether you’re a new or long-time subscriber you may have missed these insightful and helpful SEO management tips. Enjoy!

Bethany wrote the most popular post for SEO Boy this month.  In November, Google introduced us to Google Instant Preview, which added a new visual feature to the SERP.  When a user clicks on the tiny binoculars symbol next to a search result, Google shows you a sneak peek of the page content, which made SEOs everywhere wonder (again) how this might effect the industry.  Check out Bethany’s post for Instant Preview’s impact on SEO for more information!

Social search is becoming more and more important as the search engines begin to incorporate these functions into search.  This new direction that search engines are taking us down also means that the bar has been raised, and SEO agencies will have to step up their game to stay on top and keep their clients competitive.  In November, Caleb wrote about the strategy he’s taken with one of our SEO clients in preparation for social search.

Need some URL tips?  Whether you’re in the process of building your site, or looking for a way to revive your current one, optimizing URLs for search engines is a great way to improve your search engine rank with one of the most fundamental aspects of your website.  Amy recommends making this one of the first things you optimize with a new site, but if your site is already up and running, fear not.  You can still go back and optimize those URLs – it just takes a bit more work!

Don’t forget your internal linking structure!  This month, Erin offered us some valuable tips for evaluating internal links on your website or for a new SEO client.  She says that it’s very easy to just focus more on external links, but the internal structure will help to improve user experience (which leads to repeat visitors) and SEO (improved PageRank).  Check out Erin’s tips to get started on your own link plan.
