To be truthful, I do not even consider the google page rank for Local SEO anymore. There are companies without websites that show up in local results (this is due to 3rd party listings). The ones that survive in Local SEO are the ones that grab a hold of their online local business listing and have people review it. Don't try to ever fake reviews. Google is like Santa, it will be known somehow ... someday ;-)

Great post Eric. I think its a great idea for restaurants to have their visitors post comments on the spot, while their bellies are full and happy! How would you compare the importance of # reviews to the Google page ranking? Which would you think Google would give higher credit too?

You're Welcome, Andrew. Proving it is difficult. A lot of people still use it to look up the number. As in my case, I use it as a last resort - usually when the power goes out. But there is still a large enough demographic out there that use them, especially for the service industry.

Thanks for the mention Eric. You definitely have to be careful when engaging in social media to further your business ends. Re tossing out the yellow pages I think this is a big myth being pushed by group-think, rumor-mongering, grumpiness, etc. Truth is for a lot of businesses print YP still delivers a lot of value. The challenge for these publishers is actually proving it and then competing with the ROI of alternative media.
