It’s going to be interesting someday if FB and G really have it out.

FB is like the quiet little brother and while G is on top of the hill just prime.

Someone was arguing with me the other day about FB going down soon just like MS did.

In the past, it has been PROVEN time and time that BACKLINKS were the key, NOT content. Fresh content could help… by bringing new backlinks. I’ve tested it myself and seen it too. I’ve got “static” WP sites that have been at the top of the rankings for months without any changes.

Now with Caffeine, I’m sure interactions (comments, tweets, etc.) will be what’s very important. Now, you get a LOT more of these with fresh content, so fresh quality content will be more important than before.

But I still wonder in more static markets like for example, furniture sites, history archives and the like, if social media will be the definite rulers there, or if it will be backlinking as usual. We’ll see.

Your examples we’re dead on to explain why Google needed the change. Makes total sense to me. It sucks for those like me who mastered the “old way” but we’ll adapt

Nice to read about new ideas – had frankly missed the caffeine news. It seems somewhat natural for Google to rate the way they will do – who is interested in a site without traffic and activity – such page can not get links and will be “dead”.

Excellent article. This is an extremely important article for small business owners that generally don’t update their websites often and still don’t think a facebook fanpage is important.

I saw 2 TV commercials last night for 2 large corporations that directed me to their fan page instead of their website. Toyota and Target.

Google is nervous and should be. The way people use the internet is changing fast as social media continues to grow. Small business owners need to combine social media with their websites if they want to survive in the years to come.
