Five Free Directories that Can Provide Quality Links

February 13th, 2009 | | Basic SEO Tips, Link Building

Recently, we wrote an article on why you should submit your site to free directories. We have also written on how to find free directories as part of your ongoing link building strategy. If you’ve followed these steps, you’ve learned that there are many, many directories that accept free URL submissions. But which ones will provide quality links to your site?

If you’ve done any research, you will also find that there are numerous lists of free directories. The quality of the directories that you’ll find in these lists varies significantly. I scoured through a plethora of these listings in order to come up with five free directories that have a positive page rank that could be useful for your link building strategy.

Dmoz: Open Directory Project

PageRank: 8

Alexa Ranking: 2,379

This is the “big one” in regards to free directory submissions. Dmoz is the free directory with the highest quality links. If you haven’t submitted your site to Dzmoz, please stop reading and go do so now. Getting a link from Dmoz can take a while because their review process is very thorough. But this is why their links are quality.

Librarians Internet Index

PageRank: 6

Alexa Ranking: 38,626

Librarians’ Internet Index (LII) is a publicly-funded website and weekly newsletter serving California, the nation, and the world. Keep in mind, LII does not include sites that are strictly commercial with no freely-accessible information component. You can offer products and services, but you need to have an informational aspect to your site as well.

PageRank: 6

Alexa Ranking: 247,170

Ezilon.com allows individuals and companies around the world to easily access information with an emphasis on World regions. Their web directory is sub divided into regions, which includes Europe, North America, Africa, Asia, Oceania, South America and Central America. NOTE: Hey everyone, quick update: Ezilon is no longer accepting free submissions. Their annual fee $69. Bummer!

PageRank: 6

Alexa Ranking: 40,545

IllumiRate is an internet directory and search engine created by a group of volunteer editors from around the world. Your site must be suggested into the  most relevant subcategory at the deepest level of their directory structure. So, you’ll have to dig into the directory to find the most relevant subcategory for your link.

PageRank: 7

Alexa Ranking: 35,219

whatUSeek started their Web search index in 1995. Their PageRank is rather positive and their URL submission process is extremely easy.

Keep in mind that free directory submissions are a supplemental element of a successful link building campaign. However, if these links are free and releatively easy to acquire, they can help increase your web visibility and enhance your link profile (slightly).

Hey this is great information of Dmoz directory and thanks for share with us. I have little knowledge with dmoz website that I share with you.  Basically I submit the address of my site and choose the appropriate category for my site. Then the submission is reviewed by an editor. An editor is a real person who volunteers for the open directory project.
